Mr. Ebrahim Hezar-Jaribi mentioned that: This year, the area under cotton cultivation has reached 98,800 hectares, which is a 10% increase, compared to that of last year. Also, considering that the lowest area under cotton cultivation in the country was 70,000 hectares, now the area under cultivation is improved by about 30,000 hectares.

He then added: This year, both the area under cultivation and the quality of the farms are better than last year, so that the yield has reached 2,700 kg per hectare, which shows an increase of 200 kg compared to that of the last year.

The executor of the cotton project of the Ministry of Jihad-Agriculture also said: It is expected that this year we will supply 270,000 tons of cotton from cotton farms, which will be refined in cotton-cleaning factories and its fibers will be used in the textile industry to produce yarn.

 He also mentioned that: Cottonseed is also used in the oil and livestock meal industries, and this year's production figures promise better years for cotton cultivation in the future.

Mr. Hezar Jaribi, noting that the planned area under cotton cultivation for next year is 150,000 hectares, added: This figure shows a 50% growth in cotton cultivation, which, if attained, will help increase the self-sufficiency rate in the spinning industry.
