Kazem Khavazi, the Minister of Jihad-Agriculture, stated: The yield of crops in the drylands is very low and the harvest of crops from the drylands is about 6 million tons. We have been working on the dryland project for more than a year to double this production in a 5-year horizon.
Khavazi added: For the first phase, we will start from 6 provinces, which include 66 cities, and according to the plan, the share of rainfed cereals has decreased and diversification has been considered in the cultivation of plants, especially fodder, which is highly dependent on other countries, and the cultivation of low-water oilseeds was also considered in the plan.
Khavazi noted that the implementation of this plan could increase farmers' incomes in rainfed areas. The Minister of Jihad-Agriculture regarding the type of products intended for cultivation in rainfed fields stated that: these products include forage plants, safflower, camellia, wheat, and barley, among others.
