According to the information center of the ministry of Jihad-Agriculture, Director General of the Office of Recovering and Protecting the Genetic Resources of Aquatic Resources of the Iranian Fisheries Organization said: In order to achieve this goal, there are currently 126 active farm breeding sturgeon in 20 provinces of the country, with production capacity of about 6500 tons of meat and 100 tons of cultivated caviar.
Dr. Nasser Karami Raad has added: In 2218, Mazandaran province produced 2.8 tons of caviar and Gilan province with 2.5 tons of caviar production ranked first and second in the country, respectively. Karami-Raad has also added that: Out of 126 active sturgeon farms, 47 are active in Gilan province, 21 in Mazandaran, 3 in Golestan and the rest in other provinces such as Khuzestan, Fars, Qom and Yazd.
Director General of the Office for the Reconstruction and Conservation of Iranian Fish Industry has mentioned, regarding the production of Sturgeon and Caviar Fish Meat, that last year, nearly 2800 tons of meat and 5974 kg of caviar were harvested from 126 farms.
He also added that: Out of the 5974 kg of caviar grown in the first 9 months of 2018, nearly 1400 kg were officially exported, according to the customs office of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the rest was consumed in the country.
