Dr. Alireza Rafiee-Pour, Head of the Veterinary Organization was selected as the General Directorate of the Asia-Pacific Region of the World Health Organization (OIE).
According to a report from the information centre of the Ministry of Jihad-Agriculture, quoted to the Public Relations Department of the Veterinary Organization, based on the published documents of OIE, in the election held on Friday, May 31, 2019, in the public venue of the General Assembly of the World Health Organization, the results of the district elections were put to the vote of the General Assembly.

In this election, the Assembly of the World Health Organization elected Dr. Alireza Rafiee-Pour, , head of the Iranian Veterinary Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with 92 votes in favor, and 16 against or abstentions, as the secretary general of the Asia-Pacific region and the Far East of the World Health Organization.
The headquarter of the Asia-Pacific region is located in Tokyo, Japan. Management of the Office and the Executive Directorate of the Asia-Pacific and the Far East of the World Health Organization was placed under the responsibility of the Director of the Veterinary Organization of Iran, as the Regional Secretary General of the OIE. Director General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Monica Fliva, congratulated Dr. Alireza Rafieeipour for his appointment as the Regional Director General of OIE.
